Last Saturday was pretty warm, so when I put Annabelle down for her nap I thought it would be more comfortable if I let her sleep in her shirt and diaper, instead of making her wear pants too. When she woke up Ross went into her bedroom to find her standing there naked from the waste down, diaper on the floor and a nice 'surprise' on the floor as well. After that we decided, as much as I didn't want to and as much as I didn't think she really was ready, to start potty training.
So Monday morning I put some underwear on her and we talked about the basics. She has had a toilet for some time now (she showed interest in potty training almost a year ago and that turned out to be a short lived fluke) and we talk about the potty - they concept wasn't new to her. Shortly there afterword she peed and she peed a lot. But, I expected it, it was the morning of the first day. Since then we have had experienced everything. Her starting to pee in her underwear, stopping, and finishing on the toilet - with the help of me sometimes and without my help sometimes (hooray!). Her saying that she needs to go potty and doing it all by herself - without me asking (even bigger hooray!). Pooping on the floor (once again during nap time when I am not watching her constantly). And pretty much everything in between.
We went to my doctors appointment yesterday and I was convinced she would have an accident, but she didn't. But then I started to worry that she is holding it (which she will do - I can tell she needs to pee, but she refuses and says she doesn't need to) and that she is going to give herself a bladder infection. We have had our ups and downs and we both get frustrated and excited...but mostly I just want to leave this house by the end of the week! LOL. I am going stir crazy.
So, all you moms out there (or even if you are not) I need any advice you have. What worked for you? I know each kid is different so it would be nice to have some ideas to go to when things don't work. Did any of your kids hold it? Sometimes she will start to pee, run to the toilet and then not finish it - only to do the same thing 10 minutes later. A friend reccommeneded this E-book and I have seriously considered getting it - mostly so I can just call someone for advice. But apparently my husband has more faith in me than I do and he thinks I can do it without reading a book. I guess only time will tell....
That would be me when it comes to blogging. I don't have any excuses, and I am sure you could care less to hear them anyway - so here is what we have been up to...

Annabelle got a hair cut and much to Ross' dismay, I had them cut it short. It needed to be all one length. It looks thicker now and much more healthy. The downfall with the 'bob' is I have to blow dry it with a round brush and Anna hates the blow dryer. So we opt for the chi and I feel a tad bit weird using the flat iron on my two year old.
Anna also has a new found obsession - Strawberry Shortcake. A couple of weeks ago she found one of my old Strawberry Shortcake books at my mom's house and fell in love with it. Although, I enjoy reading these books because they bring back memories, they are long and just weird to say the least (I mean one characters name is Fig Boot. Really?! Ross even caught them misspelling it themselves - see below) and we end up reading each one several times a day.
Mind you, these books are meant for 4-8 year olds, but she loves and understands them anyway. When I have to discipline my child, I take books away - it works wonders for her when I say, "Come here so we can brush your teeth or you don't get to pick out your book when you go to bed tonight". And secretly I hope she doesn't come because I want to pick ANY other book than those dang Strawberry Shortcake books.

A bit of background: As a child I attached myself to any red headed character I could. I loved Ariel, Anne of Green Gables, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. I have been told that as a child, there was a period in my life where I insisted that people called me the Berry Berry Princess (in honor of Miss Shortcake herself).
Que last weekend when we had some friends over...
Me: 'Annabelle. Please give Sarah back the toy. She was playing with it.'
Anna: 'I am NOT Anna. I am Strawberry Shortcake. SHE is Blueberry Muffin and YOU are Raspberry Tart!'
Between this and the constant talking this child provides, it's like I am constantly being haunted by my own childhood.
Baby Update:
I am not almost 35 weeks along and actually not doing too bad, considering the circumstances. The weird pregnancy dreams have gotten weirder and now I am dreaming about labor and delivery. We still don't have a name - haven't narrowed it down or anything - we are still exactly where we were when we found out we were having a boy. Marvelous.

One thing that has actually progressed is the nursery. We decided, or I decided, to do a Dr. Seuss nursery. My mom just finished the bumper pads and dust ruffle and I think it turned out great. I have other Dr Seuss things for around the room but I haven't put any of them up yet because we still need to paint.
And that is where the problem is. I have no idea what color to paint the room. I want it to match the bedding somehow. But Dr Seuss stuff is so vibrant and with crazy bedding like we have I just don't want the paint to be too much or to make the room look like a circus, you know? So do I do a lighter color, an accent wall, what colors? Oh I am terrible at decisions - HELP!
And a quick Ross update: I want to give him a shout out on finishing his first semester of graduate school. He has been wanting to go back to get his Masters since he graduated, but I didn't want to do it if it meant taking out student loans (oh how I loathe the student loans we have). He is only doing one class at a time -so it will take a little while, but he did it and even got an 'A'! Yahoo for Ross! Yahoo for school! .... anyone?! Come on...
Ross loves surprises. Whenever Christmas or my birthday rolls around he always has a 'surprise' and every year I mention to him again that I don't like surprises. So this year, for my birthday he asked me out for Friday night, but wouldn't tell me what we were doing. Chelsie was going to watch Annabelle while we were out, but at our house. Any who, Chelsie texted me at the last minute to tell me Brandon had accidentally taken the car with the car seat and she needed me to come and pick her and Cooper up. Which is fine, but there is traffic galore going to and from her house and it was making me late. I hate being late.
We finally get back to the house and I rush through the door so that Ross and I could go and be on time to wherever it was that we were going and SURPRISE! He threw me a party. With many a family and friends in attendance. As my father-in-law so nicely put it 'That is the only time in my life I have ever seen you speechless'. Thanks!
I was so impressed that Ross had put together a party all by himself. He apologized later that the food wasn't something spectacular and there weren't cute decorations everywhere - but seriously?! I didn't even notice cause my husband planned a party, called my family and friends, got all the food, made it himself, etc. I was uber impressed. What a swell husband I have **Also, for any of you who did not get invited, please take note that a guy planned this party all by himself - he didn't get everyone that I would have probably called, but he tried. So I hope no one feels left out** Thank you to everyone who made the drive and came and to everyone who called, texted or Facebooked me on my birthday - it means a lot!
Yeah, no pictures were taken that night since Ross was busy grilling and I was busy, well, umm..talking :)
The next day, my actual birthday, we went out to dinner to celebrate and then to ColdStone for my free birthday ice cream. Gotta love the all the free stuff on your birthday.
I spent most of the day just relaxing - not doing much since it rained the whole day. I got a kick out of Annabelle who was trying to impersonate me and how I was sitting at the table.

On another random Annabelle note, most kids sleep with their favorite doll or stuffed animal. Not my kid. She has to pick out a book before nap/bed time for us to read and then she goes to bed with it. She cries if she does not have a book. When we go in to put the blankets back on her before we go to bed (she doesn't like to sleep in the sheets) we try and take the book away (it just can't be comfortable) and she has a death grip on the thing. What a crazy kid!
She also totes around the collapsible measuring cups and spoons I just got. I haven't even been able to use them yet. She also likes to color coordinate the things that go into the cups (necklaces shown below). In this picture she put each necklace into the cup because they were 'tired', told them goodnight and signed 'bed'.

And what would a post be without a recipe? Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and we will be celebrating, naturally, while eating a little of this. If you are looking for something different than tacos or enchiladas, give it a try :)
