Our BIG Little Boy!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get this up - for some reason I have been pretty busy ;) But I am very happy that I am no longer pregnant and that our little guy is here at last!

Evan James was born at 6:25 on 6/25 (I don't know why, but I think that is cool)

He weighed in at 8 lbs 11 oz and is 19.5 inches long with a large friggin head of 37 cm.

Speaking of Annabelle - she so far is loving being a big sister, helping me out and giving Evan a lot of kisses. She also asks probably 50 times a day 'What is wrong with my baby brother?' If he so much as changes his facial expression.

Funny story - Anna had just gotten to the hospital Friday morning to see Evan for the first time and shortly thereafter he left to get circumsized (poor lil' guy) and Annabelle was very sad about both her daddy and him leaving. Later that afternoon she came back to see us and was sitting on the couch with Evan when a the nurse walked in to check my vitals and Anna points at the nurse and yells 'No nurse! You CAN NOT take my baby brother.' Protective much?

We are doing well thus far - just still trying to get the hang of it all - which I don't expect to happen anytime soon ;) I plan on writing his 'birth story' in another post when I have another minute of free time - I know people want to get the low down. Until then, wish us luck!

Passing the Time

We have now made it past my due date - maybe he doesn't want to come yet cause he still doesn't have a name. Who knows?! We have narrowed our lists down and picked our favorites - now it is just the matter of who can persuade who to give in ;) Unless we just go with what Annabelle has been wanting to name the baby - Jordan. We have no idea where she got the name (she has no friends with that name) but ever since we found out we were having a boy she has called him Jordan and has not changed her mind. When we ask her about other names, she giggles and says things like, 'No. That's silly. Jordan!'

To pass the time, I have been doing random things to occupy my time and to get my mind off the fact that I am still, indeed, with child. Saturday I got my Bakerella on and made these cupcake/brownie and sugar cookie creations for all the men in our families since we were visiting them on Sunday. I did add a little 'fry sauce' that she didn't have for the fries.


Or I try every old wives tale I have heard to go into labor. Monday I went for a 6 mile walk and even ended it by walking up and down the curb/gutter ( I know it sounds crazy, but I will try anything at this point) and all I did was roll my ankle and almost biffed it (good thing it was late at night and no one saw).

Yesterday I rented Confessions of a Shopaholic and then we had friends over for dinner and dessert. My friend Sara is due about a week and a half after me so we had a lot of fun talking about how awesome people are when it comes to being tactful with pregnant women. I had someone at Wendy's say to me 'We are all taking bets - you must have two in there!' (while pointing to my belly). Wrong. You lose. I think I should have gotten a free frosty for that one.

Making Progress

We are finally..well almost.. done with the baby's room. Hooray! I still have some decorating to do and what not, but the painting is done and that was the biggest part. We got most everything moved into the room last night - Which is a good thing considering this baby will be coming in less than a week, unless I go late..again...please send labor inducing vibes my way :)


I am still trying to decide what other print I want in the middle picture frame. Ross' fave book is Fox in Socks so we might go in that direction.


Anna is also making progress with the potty training. She is still doing awesome with #1. Ever since we started potty training we kept her in pull ups at night - much to her dismay. She would kick and scream and declare her distaste for diapers. However, she was still waking up wet and as much as I love washing her bedding everyday...yeah, not so much. But after a week, she was waking up more and more dry. Well, one night I went to check on her before Ross and I went to bed - you know, admiring how cute that little stink is, when I notice her diaper on the floor. So I guess that was that and now she doesn't ever wear a diaper and hasn't wet the bed at night once (knock on wood). To reward her for her awesomeness we bought her a pool. I wanted to get her one anyway, but I figure this would be a good bribe to get her to go #2 in the toilet. She has done it a couple of times, but that is definitely our struggle.


For an hour and a half (I kid you not) she put all her duckies in the chair..


and then would throw them back in the pool.


And then repeat the whole process again. There were a few breaks where she would leave pool to go make 'foot prints' on the cement. Oh to be a child again.


Now for our current potty training dilema. Annabelle is no fool and is using the whole 'I have to pee' to her advantage when it comes to sleeping. For about an hour after I put her down for a nap AND after we put her down for the night she will get out of bed every 10 minutes claiming she has to pee. Now, of these 4 or 5 times only once does she actually need to go pee. Is this just a phase?! I tried to talk to her about lying, but she doesn't have the slightest idea what I am talking about. LOL. But I am afraid if I tell her 'no' that she can't get off her bed, it will be the one time she is telling the truth and she will wet the bed. Grrrr.


Last weekend was Ross' big family reunion. He was excited to finally meet the other Ross Dinsdale. They got to meet and hang out during the course of the reunion and Ross wanted me to get a picture of the both of them before we left. I got out the camera and they both struck the same pose. This was not planned. My Ross strikes this pose in almost every picture (hands on hips and looking up to the sky like some sort of super hero) and it turns out the other Ross does it in most pictures too. Ross' mom and I could not stop laughing. Who knew being a dork is all in the name ;)

Close, But No Cigar

Thanks for all the potty training advice! By day 3 it seemed to 'click' and she has really caught on. She has only had 2 'accidents' since Wednesday..when it comes to #1 that is. She stays dry during her nap and she even went in nursery all by herself, unprompted - she just got up and walked into the bathroom and went potty by herself. Wahoo! #2 is a different story. She has yet to poop in the toilet. She does not like the idea one bit. I can tell when she needs to go so we will go sit on the toilet, but she can't figure out how to go.


I think the problem is 2 fold. First, she poops standing up - so I wonder if she is having a hard time figuring out how to do it sitting down? Secondly, she is a private pooper. Like most kids in diapers, she wants to go in the other room to poop. So I try and leave her alone in the bathroom to do her business, but it's a no go. Because not only does she want to do it in private, she doesn't want anyone to know she is pooping. She gets upset if Ross or I walk in on her - it is like she is embarassed. So any advice in this area would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to force it or make her upset about it and I don't know what to do.


In other news, I am now in my 37th week and considered 'full term' but don't expect me to go anytime soon. I had yet another weekly doctors appointment yesterday (they are so fun) and everything looks good with the baby. As much as I am ready to be done being pregnant, I don't know if I am ready for the baby to come yet. Maybe if his room was done...or if he had a name! Anna was so excited to hear the baby's heart beat - she seems to be getting more stoked about the baby situation. My friend Melanie stopped by yesterday and Anna begged to hold her baby Alice. I think we need to work on her holding technique, but it was still cute nonetheless.

And on yet another note, my brother in law John is putting on a 5k for Pleasant View Founders Day this year! They have never had a 5k before, so we want to make sure that enough people sign up so they will do it again next year when I can actually run it ;) So tell everyone you know - here is a little info about the race:

Pre-Registration Fee: $10.00 before June 25^th at 5:00 p.m.

Race Day registration: $15.00 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. Pleasant View Park

It's only 10 bucks!!! You can sign up at the Pleasant View City Office or if you live too far to swing by there, contact me and we'll work out a way to get you registered.
