We finally get back to the house and I rush through the door so that Ross and I could go and be on time to wherever it was that we were going and SURPRISE! He threw me a party. With many a family and friends in attendance. As my father-in-law so nicely put it 'That is the only time in my life I have ever seen you speechless'. Thanks!
I was so impressed that Ross had put together a party all by himself. He apologized later that the food wasn't something spectacular and there weren't cute decorations everywhere - but seriously?! I didn't even notice cause my husband planned a party, called my family and friends, got all the food, made it himself, etc. I was uber impressed. What a swell husband I have **Also, for any of you who did not get invited, please take note that a guy planned this party all by himself - he didn't get everyone that I would have probably called, but he tried. So I hope no one feels left out** Thank you to everyone who made the drive and came and to everyone who called, texted or Facebooked me on my birthday - it means a lot!
Yeah, no pictures were taken that night since Ross was busy grilling and I was busy, well, umm..talking :)
The next day, my actual birthday, we went out to dinner to celebrate and then to ColdStone for my free birthday ice cream. Gotta love the all the free stuff on your birthday.
I spent most of the day just relaxing - not doing much since it rained the whole day. I got a kick out of Annabelle who was trying to impersonate me and how I was sitting at the table.
On another random Annabelle note, most kids sleep with their favorite doll or stuffed animal. Not my kid. She has to pick out a book before nap/bed time for us to read and then she goes to bed with it. She cries if she does not have a book. When we go in to put the blankets back on her before we go to bed (she doesn't like to sleep in the sheets) we try and take the book away (it just can't be comfortable) and she has a death grip on the thing. What a crazy kid!
And what would a post be without a recipe? Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and we will be celebrating, naturally, while eating a little of this. If you are looking for something different than tacos or enchiladas, give it a try :)

Thanks for the update! That was very cool of Ross to throw you that party. I enjoyed your company, and the food so thanks for the invite Ross(:
I get a kick out of your stories about Annabelle. The book thing is kinda funny. I wonder how many times she reads it to herself before she actually goes to sleep.
sounds like a fun party-way to go ross. i love that anna falls asleep with her book, hailey won't sit still for a book, in fact she gets mad when i read outloud, i hope that changes soon
Wow, I'm impressed, a surprise party? My husband is probably the worse secret-keeper in the whole world so I know that would never be happening to me.
Anna has such a fun personality...it's fun to see what they come up with!
Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a fun day. Good job to Ross for planning a fun party! Annabelle is a girl after my own heart...going to bed with a book, I love it!
What an awesome husband you had, maybe I will make Geoff read this post for some good ideas! How fun, hope you had a good birthday and cant wait to see ya on Friday!
awesome husband you have not had! OOPS!
I heard Ross was going to do that for you through my mom and I was wondering if you were going to post it. What an awesome husband you have!! He is amazing to be able to plan all of that without spilling the beans.
Annabelle cracks me up with all the things she does. She is so darn adorable, you are a lucky mother.
Happy Birthday! Sounds like you guys had a BLAST!
Well if he had invited me, I would have flown there from Missouri. I swear! Way to go Ross! Major points in the blogging world.
Dang. I wish we could have gone. I want to know how Ross got my email. Creepy. JK. :) Anyway, Anna's so cute. Love the birthday freebies. And that recipe looks good. If I wasn't still sick, I'd try it out. Alas it will have to wait. Glad you had a fantastic birthday!
What a wonderful husband to throw you a party. Those are the best. I love that Anna sleeps with a book. That is too funny. Hope you had a good birthday!
Believe it or not I even got an e-mail from Ross. I would have love to been there. You do have a good husband not many would go through all the work. Your daughter is adorable. She is so smart of course she would want to sleep with a book.
I'm surprised your child doesn't sleep clutching some type of dessert item... oh and happy birthday.
Happy Birthday! I wish we could have made it. I thought that was so cute of Ross. His e-mail to everyone was great too. He wrote something about grilling and treats...but made sure we knew we weren't grilling the treats. It was a funny Ross comment. I was so bumbed we couldn't make it...we had Brandon's finals and Alli's baby blessing that week to get ready for and the yard needed work etc. etc. Lame excuses....we should have just came! It sounds like we missed out. Well Happy B-day again. You don't even look pregnant by the way. You are so cute. The cutest pregnant lady ever! Really!
Anna holding her book with a death grip is too cute!
What a good husband you have! Sorry I did not wish you a very Happy Birthday but it sounded like it was a good one. Your little Annabelle is so adorable.
What a cute husband to throw you a party! Totally impressed here. Anna is so cute. I love all the funny quirks that kids get. The book thing is funny and her trying to sit like you at the table- so funny. That picture of you and her together is very cute. Glad you had a great birthday :)
Megan you crack me up. Ross did do a good job planning your surprise birthday party. It was fun and I'm always down for hamburgers and hotdogs. Right up my alley. I love your daughter. She is hilarious! A book?! oh man what a kid!
I was also impressed with Ross. So the other day this 3 year old in preschool was pulling apart a flower and her mom was like I told her dad we should just put it in the T-R-A-S-H(spelled out) and she was like. No don't put it in the trash. I thought of Anna. That is totally how she is gonna be, she is such a smartie pants. I love reading your blog, but secretly I'm trying to prepare my self for the day I check it and you've had your baby and I won't have mine for like 5 more weeks. I just know you will go early and I'll go late and be so sad.
So your recipe for cinco de mayo looked delicious, but I wondered are you still making a lot of things with nuts since she is allergic? I am scared now that we found out that Taylee is indeed allergic to cashews and the doctor told me to stay away from all nuts. Did you get an epi-pen? I am worried about carrying that thing around. Taylee loves to dig though my purse and I don't want her stabbing herself. I wish it had a child lock. Anyway, let me know how things are going for you and your nut/egg girl. Also, you need to tell me what you feed her for lunch. Taylee is picky and since going into the doctor she only asks for peanut butter. Figures. Anyway, hope you are having a great day. YOu look cute in your prego pic. and really this is candice, not mike :)
We were sad we couldn't make it, but glad you had fun. Speechless? Really? That is a sight I would have liked to see! :)
P.S. Charlie sleeps with books too. We put him to bed with animals and when we go to cover him he is sleeping on top of 2 or 3 (once there were 11) books. I'm still not sure if he reads them or just is comforted by them. I'm hoping he picks up reading early through osmosis! :)
ha those pics of her posing on the table like you are hilarious...ha now that i read over that sentence, pics of you posing on the table...boohahaha. i'm glad you enjoyed the surprise party and your anger with me was diminished when you found out the real reason you had to come get me....tehee! see you tonight
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you had a great day. Ross is SO AWESOME for planning you a surprise party. Seriously that is impressive :) And so great you didn't even suspect.
ps. Annabelle reminds me a lot of you!
one time Jeremy threw me a surprise birthday party, I've always wanted one. but he only invited his friends, not One of my friends was invited. But hey he tried right?

Happy Birthday! That is so funny she likes to sleep with a book! Nothing like sleeping with a good old hard covered book
Happy late birthday Megan. What a good husband you have to put a big birthday bash together. I am impressed with Ross' sneakiness. We felt very honored to get an invitation to the party and would have for sure been there if we were in Utah that night. We will have to get together another time to celebrate.
Also, I love your Annabelle stories. That girl is amazingly smart and so funny. Hope you both are about ready for #2. I'm not but I don't think that matters much.
Ross is very impressive! Make sure that you let him know that he has to top this next year!!
As for the painting question-Yes-I spray paint everything! You really should sand first-just to give it a little tooth so the paint will stick. I would prime a dresser. You can just get automotive primer-I have been told by very awesome professional spray painters that it works fabulously!!!
Then just spray paint what ever color you are doing-make sure you use good spray paint.
Then when it's dry-make sure you poly it. Polyurethane. It comes in a spray and it is way easier and worth the couple of extra bucks that you pay.
Just a warning though-once you start spray painting-you will never want to stop. You will start thrifting just to look for things to paint!! Good luck! Post pics. Before and after!
Just so you know, I made a helluva good ice cream cake with brownies instead of cake. My only variation was that I covered the ice cream with a thin layer of whippin cream and then grated some semi-sweet chocolate over the top for aesthetic appeal. It looked marvelous, and tasted even better.
I was talking to chelsie and she said that you were wondering about vinyl.
I found this cute girl who is local that does vinyl. Her button is on my blog. She has tonz of fonts and ideas and will do whatever you want. She is really reasonable as well.
Vinyl on a cricut is great-for individual letters-but when you are trying to do a saying-not so great. Plus-you have to buy a cartridge for every freaking thing that you want to do. PAIN IN THE BUTT!!! But, go and check her out, she might be what you are looking for. Cheap and cute. Right?
you are way too cute pregnant! happy belated birthday... have you got a name for the little chap yet?
