A Trip to Cali to Wait for Ellen

A while back, Ross and I went to one those 'schpills' about time shares to get a free trip to Anaheim. Which, by the way, when they say 3 Days 2 Night's for 'free' means we flight you out in the middle of the night and you come home at the butt crack of dawn and we put you in a dump of a hotel unless you want to fork over $250 and then we will give you the trip we made it sound like it would have been. Any who, we took the 'el cheapo' route and when they booked our trip it ended up being close to my bday. So it turned into my 'bday trip-o-fun' and I got to choose what we would do - WAHOO!

We sent in for tickets to 'Leno' and I checked everyday for tickets to 'Ellen' and about 2 weeks before our trip we found out we got tickets to both - Saweet! But then we realized the taping times overlapped - BOO! Of course I chose 'Ellen' :) So this is our one day trip to see Ellen....

We flew into LAX, rented the beautiful robin egg colored PT Cruiser and got to our hotel after 11PM Wednesday night. Thursday we woke up and headed to Corner Bakery Cafe. 4 years ago Chelsie, Brynn, Alisa and I went to California with a bunch of friends from Utah State for Spring Break and to watch the Aggies play in the basketball tournament. While we were waiting to go to 'The Price is Right' we found this restaurant/bakery and fell in love with it. We ate there almost everyday day, sometimes twice a day for the rest of the trip. I have been wanting to go back ever since - but the closest one is in Colorado.

This is a yummy present to me :)

My yummy breakfast!

Afterwords we headed towards Burbank - we left early not knowing how long it would take us to get there. We got there with plenty of time to spare so we walked around NBC studios, had lunch and soaked up the fantastic warm weather.

We had 'guaranteed tickets' and needed to check in at 3:30PM, but when we walked by after lunch people were already starting to line up in both the guaranteed ticket and standby ticket 'holding area' - this is the actual term they used; like we were animals - it kind of felt like it too! Sorry the next pictures were taken with my cell phone, as cameras were NOT allowed.

We waited in the 'holding area' for an hour and got our tickets.

Moved to an area by the studio and waited and waited some more. Ellen tapes 2 shows on Thursdays - one that airs Friday and one that airs Monday. We were there for the Monday taping and found out that the 800th episode was taping while we were waiting. When it was over we watched them walk out each with a new Ipod and an Ihome. CHACHING!

We were so excited to finally get inside the studio...where we waited some more. Our show airs Monday and had Jack Hanna and the American Idol cast off (I don't watch AI- so I was kind of disappointed no STARS were on) She did a great job singing though and the animals were cool - there was a bear, otters, penguins and a mama & baby wallaby. I was also kind of sad we didn't win anything - I mean how often does she NOT give anything away AND no stars were on.

We ended up being there for 4 and 1/2 hours total - we didn't get out until 7PM and Ross wanted to hurry back to watch the dang Jazz lose! But it's all good cause I got to see and dance with Ellen and I got to sit by Stryker - ow ow! So look for me Monday on Ellen.

In the car, on the way to LAX at 3:45 AM today. I can't believe I am posting a pic of me with no makeup.

Ross is NOT a morning person - he fell asleep quite quickly on the plane ride home. Thanks Ross - dancing and Ellen aren't your favorite things for sure (he is hoping no one will be able to see him or he is afraid taunting will start), but I am glad you went and also thanks to the Dinsdales for watching Annabelle while we were gone. I am determined to go back and win something next time ;)

That is awesome that you got to go see Ellen. Dude tell me how you got tickets I'm heading to so. Cal in a few weeks. I should look up that bakery in Colorado, ehh. Maybe you should come out and I will take you. So this should have been on your last post but Andrew told me you ran your 5 k in like 24 min. So I'm so jealous of that. How the crap do you run that fast? Especially after a huge long swim and bike ride. Dude you are my inspiration I don't think I will ever run that fast even without doing all the other stuff first. You rock dude!

Happy happy birthday. I love the Corner Bakery!! There are like a million of them in Orange County (one was down the street from our house) and the food is delicious. California is the greatest place in the world. I am so jealous you got to go there.

You don't know me, but I followed the link to your blog from Lori's 'blog stalk' post...anyway. I think I grew up near your hubby. Is his B-day on Christmas? If he is who I think he is this is a freaky small world.

of course I remember you Heidi! Your maiden name was Overman, right? What fun! I am sooo jealous you got into a taping of Ellen, she's freaking hilarious.

My next "to-do" race is a triathlon. So... I might be emailing you for help. :) Do you live in Ogden? Maybe you could teach me how to bike. (i'm afraid of getting hit by cars, lol)

Thanks for saying hi on the blog. Plus, your little girl is darling.

i'm hoping to do the Ogden Valley one this year, it just depends on if I decide to run the Top of Utah Marathon. If I do, then I'll have to wait til that Women's Tri in Bountiful next year. :)

Awesome! It looks like you guys had a great time. Kory and I had tickets to Ellen and the Price is Right, but they overlapped so we chose the Price is Right hoping to win fabulous prizes. We got into the show, but we didn't get picked. I have always kind of regretted not going to Ellen because I assumed everybody walked out of there with prizes. I'm sorry that's wasn't the case for you guys. But, you have great memories, right? That's something! I'll be watching for your mad dancing skills tomorrow. :)

That Corner Bakery looks awesome. I'll have to make a mental note of it so when we make it back there we can go! Thanks for the food recommendation! :)

Yep, Holly Jacobson, that was me. And funny Mitch is my little bro. I saw him tonight and I asked him if he remembered the Dinsdales...I still can't believe what a small world it is.

SO FUN!!! I am jealous. I love Ellen

Looks like you will have to come out to Colorado for that bakery. Bring Ross too. And why doesn't Ross ever post? He needs to add some of his flavor to the mix.

I DVR'd that Ellen and Couldn't find you, I was bummed. But, it was WAY cool you were there. You should have been dancing all CRAZY so the camera would have looked at you :) Ellen cracks me up!

To everyone who watched Ellen and could not find me ;) Yeah I am a little sad I did not get the "exposure" I deserved on Ellen ;) But I did see one good shot of me and 3 good glances at Ross. One is when Ellen comes out at the first and everyone is cheering. I am on the right hand side of the audience - by Stryker and just before it cuts to Ellen to start the monologue you can see me standing up cheering with my hands in the air (I know -- I rock right?!) I am wearing a brown shirt. That is the clip you can see me the best in. I even particpated in a dance off during commercials in hopes that I would get some 'air time' but to no avail!
