- Never underestimate your child's ability to twist open a bottle of vegetable oil.- It's hard not to laugh at your child when she is trying to stand up in a puddle of oil.
- Vegetable oil is both hard to clean up on linoleum flooring and from the skin and hair of a child.
- After spending a lot of quality time cleaning oil off the floor and giving your oil covered child a bath your hands become silky smooth as a result.

Please note the glossy shine to Anna's left arm and hand as well as the oil in her hair.

This is her trying to stand up. She kept falling down. Also please note the Olive Oil in this picture (behind the duck) as it will be important in future lessons.
- After cleaning both your child and the floor you may want to talk to your child about the importance of not getting into the cupboards; however, having your child learn their lesson by helping you put the other items they got out during the 'incident' should not be one of them.
- Olive oil bottles are made of glass
- Glass breaks when your toddler drops it while trying to put it into the cupboard which is merely 3 inches off the ground
- It's really lame that I have not been able to find a child proof lock for the Lazy Susan.
- Cleaning up 2 full bottles of oil takes more than an entire roll of paper towels and it is important that you always have more than one roll on hand. Who cares if paper towels were on your list of things to get at the grocery store you were planning on going to?
- It takes about 45 minutes to really get all of the oil off the floor and you are still left with a brilliant shine that I am pretty sure didn't come from the cleaner.
- Spilling 2 bottles of oil and using lots of cleaner makes your house smell funny.
- Anna thinks it is funny to watch me scrub the floor while yelling 'Whoops!' 'Anna's mess' 'Oh no!' and 'Mommy cleaning!'
- Incidents like this make me think one child is enough.

HA HA HA That's has happened to me about 5 times. I now keep the oil above my stove.... Just wait until she is 5 and late for kindergarten and she spills the milk and eggs on the floor. Fun
Oh my! What a morning you have had! Someday you will laugh at this...
Noted!!! I guess I shouldn't complain too much when Maddux makes a mess out of his baby food!
Olive Oil is expensive!! That would make me so mad, but I'm glad you see the humor in it. I just noticed that I have my very own category in your blogroll. Does that mean I'm your favorite?...or that I just don't fit in? :(
BECKY - That seriously was my biggest complaint of it all...that we wasted an entirely brand new bottle of olive oil and it made me sad because it is expensive. Grrrr. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now but find a new place in my kictchen I can hide the oil.
And you do have a category all to yourself. I would think it is more because you are 'special' or maybe it is just because I am a loser. You are the only person whose blog I look at or that I met while I wasn't at high school, college or who lives by me here (and even then, I just have one friend too). I think it just means I need to branch out! LOL.
Oh my! It's begun!!!! I think kitchens should come equipped with their own cleaning machine. We Moms spend waaay too many hours cleaning up messes. However, oil? That's not one in particular that's happened to me quite yet.
Can I vote your blog in as BLOG OF THE YEAR? I love reading your posts. They are so humorious, and though this situation was sad sorry I laughed my pants off. I know something that might be as bad as oil, its name is pancake syrup. Yes, we had an entire bottle of pancake syrup poured all over our tile floor last week by Austin. Our tile still is a little stickey cause we cant get it all off...yuck.
Is humorious a word? Well I just made it one. My grammer rocks.
Yes I had a similar experience last week with an equally slippery substance that I will not mention. I found Lizzie screaming bloody murder because she couldn't stand up it was really fun. Although it didn't make it to her hair luckily.
Holy Cow!!!!! THat is a hoot!
Tanner did that once with flour - three times - then with our 10 lb container of sugar - another 3 times, Of course he did it when Flour was at an all time high! I'm not laughing at you, but with you!!! :)
lol that is so funny and totally sucks for you. I don't think I would have been able to have the same sense of humor as you. I hope you got to the grocery store. Oh man I'm going to be laughing at that one for a while.
your stories are always good for a great laugh even though they usually cause you some sort of grief over Anna! Hey, at least you will have a really shiny floor for a while!
Oh man!! How long did it take you to clean all that up? I hope you took lots of pictures... they will be priceless when your daughter is a teenager :)

I have made a mental note. Wow that doesn't sound like fun at all. I laugh that you were most annoyed that you wasted a whole bottle of olive oil and had to buy a new one. I would be annoyed I had to spend so much time cleaning it up. I don't like to clean very much. I am in for a long rest of my life huh?
And no worries for girl moments. Glad to know I am not the only one who still has them. :)
I'm glad you could look at the whole incident objectively! It is so hard to keep a serious face when they really are cute and stinkers at the same time! You are a good mom- hang in there!
haha, and yet you were still so calm while talking to me on the phone. i am with you....despite the crummy situation i would probably laugh at my son who couldn't get up...do you think there is something wrong with us? hey october seems like a busy month when should we go to gardner village and what did you think of lacey on ellen today? she seemed to be flirting with the gay guy...maybe she didn't get that memo
Invest in the magnetic child cabinet locks, AND plastic olive oil containers, they do have them!! That is so funny, and at that age you really can't make them clean it up! AT least you have a really shiny floor!! Right?
If you had two maybe they'd keep eachother busy by stuffing toys in the toilet or something!! That is funny, and it's got to happen at some point, right?? you'll laugh later! :P
Oh dear. That's horrible! I would die. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I won't make the same mistakes you did now. :)
OH WOW! I have sooo much to look forward to! I'm impressed that you stopped to document it on film....I don't know if I would've thought about it. I'd be frantic trying to clean up that mess! Sorry about the loss of Olive Oil, that's quite a shame. Gotta love toddlers!
I'm sorry, but I CANNOT stop laughing! I'm sure it was a very hard thing, but wow! you sure can make it into a great story with lots of visuals and funny words! I love that you had to clean up two bottles of oil! That TOTALLY would have been me too! Its one of those chain reaction things..one thing after another, after another..hahahah
Oh my gosh that is awful! However, I couldn't stop laughing. Maybe because she couldn't get up and she kept saying things like "whoops, Anna's mess, etc." It was strange, it stuck with me so much that Anna was in my dream last night. Weird, considering I've never even met her.....
HEATHER - Thanks for the tips! SERIOUSLY! :)
CHELSIE - I think there might be many things that could be wrong with us, but not in this situation. Now maybe if she were actually hurt or crying, then yes we would have become like the doctor on 'The Simpsons' ...no good :)
And yeah I did watch Ellen (heelllo?!) and Lacey is just a weirdo. I don't know. Maybe she thinks she can get him to switch sides?
Can I say I haven't had the oil thing happen. I do feel you on the lazy susan child locks. I have two withing kiddie reach and the locks I tried didn't work...If you find something pass the knowledge on. I love that Anna!
I am laughing so hard! How funny. I'm glad you can go through these experience to teach me! I now know never to leave my oil in a lower cabinet (that is exactly where it is at right now). Anna is so cute and funny!
Oh my gosh...this seriously cracks me up and makes my day! I know it is horrible for you and would have been so hard to clean up. But, I just think Annabelle is so dang cute! She reminds me a lot of Ky. They would be such good play buddies, but they would get into so much more trouble together. Although Ky has never done Vegt. oil before...just flour, chocolate chips, and cereal. Your clean up is much worse. hehe.
I love it! Anna is hillarious! I can totally see you cleaning that up while she's just laughing at you. Oh the joys of motherhood.
That was funny to us, but I'm sure it wasn't funny to you. What a mess to clean up and to get rind of all the greasiness. I have days like that too. One time Trevor learned to climb over the stair gate and poured quick oatmeal all over Austin and then emptied the whole box of all bran cereal all over the kitchen floor and was dancing in it. Joys of being a mom, right? At least you were able to take pictures of it, I never thought of that at the time as I was upset because we had places to be when they did that at Anna's age.
Yikes! Best 45 minutes spent I've ever heard of.
I've been a slacker on checking your blog and I'm sorry cause that story is hilarious. The best is that it happened to you. The one who picks up after their child immediately after she is done playing. Oil is hard to clean up, but I bet you scrubbed it all clean.
