I'm So Proud

A while back Ross came home all excited to tell me about this race he wanted to enter. I was stoked, maybe I would be able to get my husband to run with me...not that I want to go running together hand in hand singing love songs to each other, but then maybe he would be more understanding when I want to go running (he is already understanding, but you can always be more understanding, right?! Especially when he talks to me late at night preventing me from an early bed time making it nearly impossible to drag myself out of bed in the early AM)

Any way, it wasn't a running race, but a biking race. Ok. I'll take what I can get. I mean, my husband will actually be exercising. Until he explains the race....

It is called the Inaugural Utah Tour de Donut. Yeah, you read that right, Donut. Here is how the race works:

It's simple. Race 21 miles and see who is the king donut! In circuit style, ride 7 miles, then eat as many donuts as you would like. No limit. Then, ride 7 more miles, eat more donuts, then ride the last 7 mile lap. Did I forget to tell you? For every donut you eat, subtract three minutes from your time! Ten donuts? 30 minutes right off the top.

This race is one I would expect from Ross. He asked if he wanted me to join him in his triumphant race..to this I said no. The thought of trying to down donuts and ride a bike as fast as I can makes me ill. But Annabelle and I went yesterday morning to cheer on daddy as he tested both his athleticism and gastric abilities.

He figured he needed to eat each donut in less than 1 minute to make up for the time it took to stop, eat the donut and start back up again. Well, that didn't work as planned. Apparently it is a lot harder than it looks. He probably took the whole 3 minutes to eat 1 donut the first time.

And the second time. You could tell everyone else was a little slower the second time around. People were moaning. One guy even asked if 'that cute little girl (Anna) could eat his donut for him.' Sorry. I don't think it's legal.

Annabelle found a dog to play with while waiting.

2 people dressed up like a cowboy and an Indian and rode tandem. They would shoot fake guns as they rode off after each loop yelling 'A trains a comin!' They were hilarious. I couldn't get any good pictures of them as the camera is uber slow.

Ross had a really good time and wants to do it again, although he is a little shamed in the fact he only ate 2 donuts. The winner? He at 17 donuts the first lap and 6 the second. He finished in about 1 hour and 10 minutes - so his time was just under 1 minute...pretty impressive to bike 21 miles I would say.

That is the funniest race I have ever heard of! I think my husband would do well at that, he is great at biking and eating. I bet it was entertaining to watch!

That is hysterical! What a great idea to get people out exercising and eating healthy! Where do they have this little race? Oh yeah and I forgot that you have done a triathlon before, I want to do one next summer, how do I train?

That is a race Art would like too! I don't think I could keep donuts down while I did a bike race. Way to go Ross! And I love the video of Anna! She is so cute! She and Claire definitely need to play!

That is awesome! When is this race gonna take place again? I have a brother, a few brothers-in-law, and a husband who would probably be very interested in it. :) Kory would get a dozen Krispy Kreme's on his P-Day in the Mish and eat them in one day. I think the hard part will be convincing him to ride a bike. :)

Ha, dad was telling me about this race the other day and it sounded perfect for Rossario! Even though he only ate 2 donuts, (which I know he is capable of so much more), he still did finish the 21 mile bike race so props to him! And the cowboys and indian thing...that's awesome...i think this is a race I would have enjoyed watching! Love it

The race is in American Fork. Ross is planning on doing it again next year - so gather all the Homers out there and let's make it a party next year :)

Wow, sounds like I might have to plan our trip back to Utah around this race next year. That is about the coolest race I have ever heard of! The donuts might just be enough to get me off my duff.

I agree with Lori I would've blown chunks. However, I'm sure it was entertaining to watch.

Yeah, that is definitely a race for hubbies. Have you noticed that it's usually (usually) us wives who are out running while the hubbies "support" our efforts? My hypothesis is this: The men don't care about exercising because their pudge adds on gradually whereas ours takes, oh about nine months.

Okay, that is one of the funniest things I have ever heard. Of course your husband would be the one to do it...I do remember you telling me at one of our chats at AFCU that he likes to deep-fry candy bars! Gross!

I read the whole thing to Justin who is watching over my shoulder-we both cracked up when it came to the part about the cowboys and Indians! The trains a comin!

Thanks for a good laugh...

I really couldn't think of a more perfect race for Ross. Although two donuts come on Ross!!!

Honestly that's unbelievable. What a concept - biking and eating donuts at the same time! Props to Ross!! I have to wait at least an hour before I can even MOVE after dinner! Annabelle looked so adorable holding the sign and playing with the dog. So fun!

Wow, I am sure he put you to shame with that record 21 mile ride in under one minute! What is the world coming to? I would have thrown up after one. That is pretty funny though, who would have thought of such a perfect race..now if only they could invent a machine that would take off like three years of age on your skin for every healthy thing you ate..or better...pounds off! Yeah sign me up!

Oh! Man, I was laughing so hard. I have been such a blogging slacker. Annabell is adorable kissing Lucky and Ross is Random! That cracks me up. What a fun race though. I would love to watch that next year. How entertaining! Annabell is so sweet holding that sign for her Daddy!

That is a funny race! I don't think I would do to well in that one as I think donuts are way to sweet for me. It looks like he had fun though and Anna looks very cute holding the sign.

I enjoyed reading your post about the race, you documented it well.

If it hadn't been for Ross's email at work, the cowboy and indian wouldn't have known to show up. So thank you, Ross! I hope next year it's tour de hotdog, I think I could eat more of those.

here's the pix we took:
